Sea King

Postby Nick » Sat Dec 07, 2013 6:10 am

I started this project back in June and hoped to have this done in about 3 months .......... ok right who am I trying to kid.

Here we are 6 months down the line and at least now I do have something to show for all the work.
I'm not posting every little step but if any one has any questions I'll do my best to answer and add any photo's I have.

So here's the start a few months ago.

Image

Skip ahead a few days and here's the mold for the fuselage.
Image

and the dog house
Image

The first fuselage came out of the mold a week or two back and here's how it looks at the moment.
Image

Chris (helijenks) has been working his magic and drawn up about 50 different scale parts and accessories for me (thats the white bits on the fuselage) and having spent years scratch building bits for my Aircrane I'm still in shock as to how quickly you can add fantastic detail with printed parts.
Here's a close up of the undercarriage leg, this is a printed cover which fits over the aluminium u/c leg. The winglets that cover the aluminium spar are being molded this week,

The door steps

and with a coat of primer, the detail really stands out.

Romano

The first one thats being built now will be electric using slightly modified Goblin mechanics.

There's room in the fuselage for PHT3 or Pahl turbine mechanics. The tail drive can be either shaft or flexdrive depending on personal preference.

I'll keep udating the thread as the build progress's, if your interested in one then you can contact me through my website http://www.redlodgehelicopters.co.uk

Here's the woodwork laid out ready for a trial fit.

There's a bit of a knack to getting all this in, it has to be put in, in the right sequence to get it all to fit.

Quick update on the Seaking build, which is going a little slowly, spent the last week or two cutting out the windows and trial fitting the woodwork etc. and getting two fuselages ready for shipping.

That is just one fantastic job of fuselage fab work! You give me inspiration for my Enstrom 480B fuse project. I'm midway through the fab of the mold buck and I have the mechs almost ready to fly. My mechs have the swash mounted under the mainshaft and the control rods running up the center of a 15mm hollow main shaft, just like the full scale heli.
